About the history of the series
Inaugural Melges 24 European Sailing Series, established by the International Melges 24 Class Association (IM24CA), was held in 2013.
The series was launched with the aim to run the international regattas around Europe attracting the venues to host the events and to give a boost to the local fleets. Riccardo Simoneschi, IM24CA Chairman of those times said, that the European Sailing Series has given the possibility to sail only at high level on the best race courses of the continent with highly skilled race committees, great locations and facilities like never before for a continental circuit.
IM24CA Chairman Riccardo Simoneschi Announces New Melges 24 European Sailing Series For 2013
The winner of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series in Overall ranking will be awarded the right to hold the Melges 24 European Sailing Series perpetual trophy until the conclusion of the following year’s European Sailing Series. This perpetual trophy has been donated to the series by the former Chairman of IM24CA, Riccardo Simoneschi (2011-2014) and it's been awarded since 2013, when the series was established by IM24CA.
The winner of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series in Corinthian division will be awarded the right to hold the Melges 24 European Sailing Series Corinthian division perpetual trophy until the conclusion of the following year’s European Sailing Series. This Trophy was presented in 2014.
