Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2021 - White Room Style Led in Malcesine
June 25, 2021 - Malcesine, Italy - A classic Garda afternoon was the backdrop to the first day of races valid for the inaugural act of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2021, organized by Fraglia Vela Malcesine in collaboration with the Melges 24 Italian Class Association and International Melges 24 Class Association. An Ora (southerly wind) that blew over 15 knots, giving the nineteen racing crews the first long glides of the season, made it possible to complete three races.
Glides that have promoted Michael Tarabochia's White Room GER677 with Luis Tarabochia at the helm (today 2-1-1) to the top of the provisional ranking: a great start for the reigning champions of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series, always at the top of the fleet despite the Corinthian's status. The Tarabochia team, which sails with an almost familiar crew, keeps the former World Champions of Altea ITA722 three points away (1-2-5). Led by Andrea Racchelli, the reigning Italian Melges 24 Champions from 2021 made a misstep in the third race, ending fifth and losing valuable points to the German crew, currently in command of the regatta.
The provisional podium is completed by Sergio Caramel's Arkanoé by Montura ITA809 (4-5-4), second best Corinthian team, five points behind Altea and two and five points ahead of Paolo Brescia's Melgina ITA693 (8-4-3), and Seven-Five-Nine HUN759 (5-3-10) of Akos Csolto, being also third best Corinthian.
The first stage of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series will resume tomorrow morning: the focus of the Race Committee is to complete four races (two in the morning, two in the afternoon), in order to lighten the day on Sunday, when the event will reach conclusion.
