Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2016 - Invitation to the bid
The International Melges 24 Class Association (IM24CA) hereby invites the yacht clubs and national classes around Europe, which are interested to host one of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series (ESS) events, to submit their bids. http://melges24.com/europeansailingseries
Since the launch of the European Sailing Series initiated by Riccardo Simoneschi the class continues to grow and thrive in countries around Europe. The class would like to end up with 5-6 locations through the season.
By starting this process now IM24CA would like to offer an exciting schedule based on good timing of the series, but also a logical and convenient plan for logistics. Typically the boats from Northern Europe would like to travel and compete to the South for the spring time when it’s still cold in North and then migrate back to North during the course of the summer.
While planning the schedule for the next year we need to keep in mind also the Melges 24 European Championship to be held in Hyeres, France on September 2-9.
Melges 24 class was included in the Audi tron Sailing Series in 2015. We hope it will be the same next year to continue the growth of the class in Southern Europe. IM24CA will start the bidding process to optimize these two series and to strengthen the events and venues used by the Melges 24 class.
The bids with your proposal letters will be accepted from today until 15th of August 2015.
Please note: a bid is only valid when it includes the proposal from a yacht club with a NCA to one (1) location with a concrete proposal from two (2) different weekends to choose. http://melges24.com/europeansailingseries
Please submit your bids to piret@melges24.com
PS At the same time you can share your vision or good ideas about the series schedule with IM24CA even you are not submitting a bid.
Melges 24 European Sailing Series event requirements/suggestions
- While submitting the bid you need to keep in mind to be able to host up to 60 boats.
- IMCA staff – we will not be sending a full team to the event but we are considering sending one person to help with media output. Would the club be able to provide accommodation, meals and perhaps contribute to some of the costs for them to attend? As you know the class budget is very tight so we could not cover all the costs for this but would be able to share costs.
- For the social program we have no formal requirements but it is always nice if there is some sort of welcoming drinks on the night before racing starts and snacks and drinks when the sailors gather after sailing each day. Finally if there can be some snacks and drinks for the prize giving this is always popular.
- The Class does not collect a levy from the entry fee but if the entry fee could be set to help us to fund the presence of a press/support person from IMCA this would be very good.
Looking forward to your ideas and bids!
