It's been another frantic day for everyone involved in the Melges 24 Worlds rescheduling which included a 7 way conference call for the IMCA Executive Committee.
We are aiming to keep you all updated as best we can on the state of play with the world championship. We will post news as often as possible here on the site and if you have any queries don't hesitate to e-mail me or post them on the discussion forum.
The International Melges 24 Class Association today announced that it is looking to reschedule the 2001 Melges 24 World Championship, planned for 8-18 November in Ft Lauderdale.
The 2001 Melges 24 European Championship closed with a very emotional prize giving in which Christina Zuccoli, widow of the late and great Giorgio, presented the new Georgio Zuccoli perpetual trophy to the overall winner Cedric Pouligny and his crew.
The Melges 24 Europeans drew to a close with a final seventh race in Torbole today. Racing started just before 9am in a brisk northerly breeze with most of the overall leaders opting for the left end of the line and the left hand side of the course.
Race six at the Melges 24 Europeans saw major upsets with Cedric Pouligny and Favio Favini caught OCS. After a six and a half-hour postponement sailing finally got underway at 5.30pm.
450 Melges sailors and official from the Circolo Vela Torbole enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Riva's smartest hotel last night. The crews enjoyed a wonderful italian meal with endless free wine before watching a very moving film tribute to Giorgio Zuccio and video from the first two days of sailing.
After another two-hour delay waiting for wind the race committee were finally able to get the days proceedings underway. For a short while it looked as if Garda might deliver the conditions for which she is so famous and race four started in a building 12 knot breeze.
