MELGES 24 EUROPEANS CLOSE WITH AN EMOTIONAL PRIZE GIVING

The 2001 Melges 24 European Championship closed with a very emotional prize giving in which Christina Zuccoli, widow of the late and great Giorgio, presented the new Georgio Zuccoli perpetual trophy to the overall winner Cedric Pouligny and his crew. The teams were all very moved by Christina's decision to present the prize personally at the club which Giorgio considered home.

Also presented for the first time was a youngest crew trophy, sponsored by the Hotel Santoni, which went to the British
crew of "Fiver" whose average age of around 20 made them by far the youngest in the competition.

In addition to the Championship prizes the IMCA also took the opportunity to present the prizes for the Overall Melges 24 European Ranking, won by Laurent Pages and his P&P Racing Team. Each of the prize winners received a Pierrick Contin signed photograph of their boat.

The ceremony closed with presentations to the Circolo Vela Torbole to thank them for hosting the Championship.
