Miami, Florida (March 10, 2011) – It was ‘game on’ for sailors in the Melges 24, Melges 20, Viper 640 and J/24 classes as they headed out to Biscayne Bay for their first day of competition at the 2011 BACARDI Miami Sailing Week presented by EFG Bank.
With two races completed despite some tricky light winds which resulted in a long postponement Alberto Bolzan sailing ITA716 Saetta leads after the opening day of the opening Volvo Cup event of the 2011 season in Sanremo.
With just nine weeks to go until the2011 Melges 24 World Championship, to be hosted byCorpus Christi Yacht Clubwith championship racing from 16-21 May, the fleet's Road to Corpus Christi series of four warm up events is well underway.
Last weekend (5th – 6th March) Middle Harbour Yacht Club hosted the Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta. The Melges 24’s competed in the regatta as a lead up event to the Australian Championships later this week at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on Pittwater.
The Melges 24 fleet expansion continues apace and this week comes news of a new class forming in Chile with activity also starting to increase in Mexico.
2011 Sperry Top-Sider Charleston Race Week's inshore courses have seen incredible growth this year. Due to the unprecedented number of entrants, the difficult decision has been made to limit the number of inshore entries as of February 24.
