Volvo Cup 3 - Cala Galera
After three days of incredibly close racing between the 48 Melges 24 racing at the Italian Volvo Cup 3 event in Cala Galera Luca Valerio and his crew aboard Alina Helly-Hansen beat Philippe Ligot's Partner & Partners, helmed by Francois Brenac, and Eddy Eich's No Woman No Cry, helmed by Alba Batzill.
Friday's opening day brought no wind and the racing had to be abandoned. On Saturday the weather had improved and three races were run in medium airs. By Sunday the wind had dropped again but conditions were still sailable allowing the final four races to be completed.
Tactician Branko Brcin paid testament to the quality of the Volvo Cup fleet saying - "This past year we had good boat speed, and we were able to compensate some of my errors, or some mistakes in our maneuvers. Now all the boats are fast and have good boat handling so a meter lost here or there is crucial and makes all the difference to finishing on the podium or in mid fleet."
