Update and Invitation from Norway
From the Norwegian Melges 24 Class - In Norway and Northern Europe the Melges class is at new record levels, both in numbers and activities. Last weekend the class arranged a 4 day tune up clinic in the West Coast of Norway, Haugesund, with Brian Hutchinson (USA - world champion and Key West Champion) and Pablo Soldano (Italy – Ullman Sails).
This weekend the class get together for a ranking event in the Oslo Fjord, before the class race 3 nights in a row in next week, in The Kings Cup in Oslo.
The Norwegian Championship will be arranged at Hankø, 100 km south of Oslo, at one of Norway’s prime sailing sites. The 3 day event from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th of September. Entries from Norway, Sweden, Estonia and Denmark have already made their entry, and there is expected over 40 boats, which makes this event the second largest national championship in Europe. The racing attracts many of Norway's best sailors, the level is very high and we expect very close racing, where normally the podium positions will be open until the last race is finished. At least 15 teams will have the ambitions and capability to enter the podium, among them Terra, who where the best Corinthian team in the Worlds 2008.
The sailing area is one of Norway’s finest, and the social program is very well arranged with after sail at the dock, cocktail party and regatta dinner.
The class growth attracts almost every high performance racers in our region, and new teams from both the dingy Olympic programs and professional teams from different sail makers are in the market for boats.
