TOP US TEAMS BATTLE IT OUT ON DAY ONE AT AUDI MELGES 24 US GOLD CUP

Yesterday's Audi Melges 24 Gold Cup opening day was a cracker with three great races being completed in excellent conditions.

Following on from his recent victory at the US Nationals Tom Freytag confirmed that his return to form is not just a fleeting thing by taking two firsts and a second to lead the regatta at the end of day one, four points ahead of Brian Porter who scored 4, 3, 1.

The battle for the overnight third slot was a fierce once with Bruce Ayres eventually ending up just one point ahead of Mark Reynolds, helming for Philippe Kahn, and Seadon Wijsen who are tied in fourth.

With three more races scheduled today and a final two races planned for Sunday it's still all to play for. Full results and photos are posted at http://www.stfyc.com/.
