TOP THREE TEAMS SEPARATED BY JUST ONE POINT AT COUPE DE FRANCE
Day two of the Coupe de France regatta brought light to moderate 12-15 knot winds from the north-east, and eventually glorious sunshine bringing out that legendary Mediterranean blue of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez much to the delight of the 39 crews taking part in the regatta. The good conditions enabled the race management team to run all three scheduled races bring the total raced to seven.
Today’s excellent conditions filled the hearts of the Olympic Medallists, World Champions and other competitors gathered to race for this legendary trophy. At the end of the penultimate day of the regatta, three teams - Island of France, Monaco and France – all find themselves just one point ahead in the overall team standings. Tomorrow’s final two races will decide the regatta and we can expect some fantastic racing!
In the Dragon, Kito de Pavant on Ar Youleg further widened the gap on his nearer adversaries, Christian Boilot of the Yacht Club de Monaco on Tamm Ha Tamm and the Swizz/German team of Michael Schatten and the crew of Chi.
For the Mumm 30s Bernard Mallaret and Xavier Lecoeur on Cape Sport are definitely untouchable on speed, both handling and tactics showing the same form that won them the opening Mumm 36 event of the season, the Primo Cup. Behind them is another Monegasque, Michel Perris on Dangerous But Fun followed by Defi Partage.
Cédric de Kervanoel of the Rochelais du Yacht Club de France continues to lead the Melges 24s ahead of Bruno Jourdren’s Lord Jiminy whilst Italian Franco Mario Rao and his Hedimegica team have overtaken Alba Batzill’s Vito crew for third place overall.
