TOM FREYTAG CONSOLIDATES LEAD ON DAY TWO AT AUDI MELGES US GOLD CUP
Three more great races were completed yesterday at the Audi Melges 24 Gold Cup in San Francisco. Tom Freytag displayed stunningly consistent form to take second place in all three races leaving him with a total of 8 points to count overall after the discard came into play.
Brian Porter hangs onto second place with 15 points despite a somewhat erratic second day scoreline of 21, 4, 3.
Philippe Kahn and Mark Reynolds, who are sharing the helming duties aboard Kahn's "Pegasus", had an excellent day winning the first two races and taking seventh in the third. As a result they have overtaken Bruce Ayres for third place and now have a useful eight point cushion between themselves and their near rivals.
Ending the day in fourth place and also overtaking Ayres was Seadon Wisjen, who won the final race of the day and took 6 and 9 in the first two.
Ayres had a very mixed day ending up with a 22, 16, 4 scoreline, just enough to keep him in fifth ahead of Argyl Campbell and Don Jesberg in sixth and seventh respectively.
With two final races planned for today Freytag will be hoping to hold his form and win a second regatta with a race to spare. No doubt Porter and Reynolds/Kahn will have other ideas and we can anticipate a final day of close racing off the St Francis Yacht Club. Full results and photos are posted at http://www.stfyc.com/.
