Teams Register & Practise At Ocean Reef

The sun is shining, the temperature is in the 80s and the Melges sailors are happy people here at the Corum Melges 24 World Championship at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo. Today is the final day for registration and as I write sailors are rushing around weighing in, checking their paperwork, getting sails stamped and generally making final preparations.

PRO Hank Stuart and his team have run 3 practise races over the last two days and the competitors have all declared themselves very happy with the race management and the race area. In the practise racing competition has been intense and it is clear that the press and spectators are in for some edge of the seat viewing over the coming six days of racing.

Tonight everyone involved with the regatta will be on the beach at Bucaneer Island for the gala opening ceremony which incorporates a cocktail party and one of Ocean Reef's legendary buffet dinners. For the competitors it will be a hard call between enjoying the hospitality and making sure they are in peak condition to race in the morning!

Racing starts tomorrow morning and runs through until Friday with a total of 12 races scheduled. We'll bring your daily reports and photographs so check regularly with the site. Check out the Practise Race Results Practise Race Results and the Photo Gallery.
