TEAMS ENJOY A GREAT MEAL AND COCKTAILS AT 2002 WORLDS CHAMPIONSHIP DINNER

Last night teams gathered to celebrate with food and drink the championship of the 2002 Melges 24 Worlds dinner. Hosted at the Maritim Hotel, a room full of sailors looked on as Tom Freytag, acting Chairman of the International Class payed homage to the contributions of Keith Musto - first secretary/treasurer of the IMCA, for the enormous amount of work he has done in establishing the international class.

As Tom closed he announced and introduced newly elected executive committee members Henri Samuel of France as the Class Chairman, Hal Pickering will continue his responsibilities as Vice Chairman from the US (both were unable to attend last nights gathering), Nils Hauff will become the Vice Chairman for Europe, Tomi Hakola from Finland and Gunter Tzeschlock will act as committee members.

Nils, Tomi and Gunter then proceeded with a presentation to Tom Freytag recognizing his contributions to the International class.

For the final day of racing we find very dreary conditions this morning. After an evening of heavy thunderstorms there is nearly no wind and a light drizzle.

As we hope for the start of the last two races of the championship series we find Harry Melges with a significant lead in first place, followed up by close runners Jamie Lea and Rob Smith.
