Super Sunday Showdown: Razjaren Edges Out Rivals at Zadar CRO Melges 24 Cup
18 March 2024 - Zadar, Croatia - The Zadar Act of the CRO Melges 24 Cup 2024, which had 21 teams and was held March 16-17, proved to be a thrilling competition, living up to its reputation as Croatia's premier sailing event.
While lack of wind forced organizers from YC Uskok to cancel Saturday's races, they made up for lost time with a jam-packed "Super Sunday" featuring four races. The intense competition saw Razjaren, led by helm Ante Ćesić, claiming victory ahead of Universitas Nova with Ivan Kljaković Gašpić at the helm. Cro-a-Sail, skippered by Darko Hajdinjak, rounded out the podium third.
"After a day off due to weather, we had a fantastic 'Super Sunday' on the water," said Ante Ćesić. "The YC Uskok and Race Committee did a tremendous job organizing four races between 11 am and 4 pm. It was a busy day, but everyone was happy with the conditions and the competition. Razjaren secured two wins and two second-place finishes, but each race was a close battle with Ivan Kljaković Gašpić, Darko Hajdinjak, and Luka Šangulin. In the end, only five points separated the top four teams, which speaks volumes about the fierce competition on the course."
In the Corinthian category, like at the season opener in Biograd, the winner was Blue Label, with helmsman Hrvoje Petrović. Amor won second place with helmsman Luka Piasevoli, while Tutta Forza, with helmsman Niko Jakovčev, took third.
The CRO Melges 24 Cup will set sails again from April 5 to 7 in Opatija, a regatta known for attracting a strong international presence. Organizers anticipate up to 30 Melges 24 boats competing in the picturesque Kvarner waters.
The CRO Melges 24 Cup is supported by Angelina Yacht Charter, Sailing Point, North Sails, One Sails, Akvarij digital studio, regate.com.hr, Raiser digital agency, EmergenSea, and Dustom Sails.
