Successful Kick Off of the 2021 Melges 24 Croatian Sailing Series in Biograd
April 19, 2021 - Biograd, Croatia - Great passion to sailing, great activeness and great leadership took bunch of sailors in Croatia to where they are now! Creating interest and attraction towards an exciting and high-performance sportboat Melges 24, rapidly 12 boats found new owners in Croatia and a new National Melges 24 Class was established, recognized by the Croatian Sailing Federation and IM24CA.
On April 17-18, the first event of the Melges 24 Croatian Sailing Series took place in Biograd, organized by the JK Briva and Luka Šangulin. Nine local teams and one from Ukraina were on the starting line. On both days three races were sailed in a very light and relatively unstable conditions, but the program was executed almost to the maximum, only the final race was shortened on the second upwind mark.
The honor of winning the first Melges 24 regatta in Croatia went to the hosting skipper and boat Panjic CRO567 of Luka Šangulin, with Tomislav Bašiž,Tonko Rameša, Duje Fržop and Noa Šangulin scoring 2-1-2-(3)-1-1. Second place on the podium was taken by the only foreign team - Arctur UKR661 of Vasyl Gureyev with Shafranyuk Andrii, Moshovskiy Vitaliy and Mechetin Dmytro posting (3)-2-3-1-2-2. The podium was completed by Strilica CRO166 with Lovre Perhat, Mladen Perhat, Stjepan Vuletić and Filip Miroić scoring 1-5-1(9)-5-3.
