Submissions Published for Melges 24 Future Championships

February 5, 2025 - As per the announced schedule, IM24CA is pleased to share the bids submitted for hosting the upcoming Melges 24 major championships. These proposals will be reviewed and voted upon during the IM24CA World Council Extraordinary General Meeting on February 25, 2025.

2026 Melges 24 World Championship

A bid has been submitted by the Little Traverse Yacht Club (LTYC), located on Little Traverse Bay in Harbor Springs, Michigan, USA.

Founded in 1895, LTYC has a long-standing tradition of competitive sailing and is renowned for hosting high-level regattas, including the Ugotta Regatta and the annual Little Traverse Yacht Club Race Week. The club’s location on Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay offers spectacular fresh-water sailing conditions, with steady winds and a scenic backdrop, making it an attractive venue for the Melges 24 Worlds. At the heart of the Melges 24 Midwest region, the state of Michigan has long been a cornerstone of strength and activity for the U.S. Class and has hosted the very successful Quantum Sails Melges 24 Great Lakes Cup Series for the last 5 years.

2026 Melges 24 European Championship

Three bids have been received from Italy and Norway, showcasing strong interest in hosting the event:

     •       Yacht Club Sanremo (Italy) – One of Italy’s most prestigious sailing clubs, Yacht Club Sanremo has hosted numerous international regattas, including high-profile one-design and offshore events. Situated on the Ligurian coast, Sanremo offers ideal Mediterranean conditions, with steady winds and a well-equipped marina. The club’s experience in organizing large-scale regattas makes it a strong contender.

     •       Tønsberg Seilforening (Norway) – Located in Tønsberg, Norway’s oldest town, this sailing club has a rich history and a reputation for developing top-tier sailors in one-design racing. Tønsberg is known for its North Sea-influenced conditions, providing a mix of light and strong winds that test tactical decision-making.

     •       Kongelig Norsk Seilforening (Royal Norwegian Sailing Association – KNS, Norway) – As Norway’s largest and most prestigious yacht club, KNS has hosted numerous European and World Championships since its founding in 1883. The club has proposed hosting the event at its sailing resort in Hanko, one of Norway’s top summer racing destinations. Hanko offers excellent race areas, reliable winds, and outstanding regatta facilities, making it an exciting venue for a Melges 24 European Championship.

2027 Melges 24 World Championship

Letters of Intent have been received from both the Croatian and Italian Melges 24 Class Associations, signaling their commitment to submitting formal bids in the future.

Both Croatia and Italy have a rich sailing tradition, well-established fleets, and a strong history of hosting one-design championships. The national Melges 24 classes are actively working with renowned sailing clubs and attractive venues to finalize their proposals, ensuring that the 2027 Worlds will take place in a location with top-tier race management, competitive conditions, and excellent infrastructure for teams and supporters.

Treasurer Nomination Vote

In addition to the event bid selection, members will also vote on the nomination of the IM24CA Treasurer. One nomination has been submitted to appoint Miles Quinton as Treasurer.
