From the Sublime to the Ridiculous - No Wind in Neustadt

Neustadt turns out to be a place of unexpected weather extremes and after yesterday's near gales today we have no wind at all. Right now, as you can see from our photograph, the competitors are held ashore and are desperately waiting for the mist to lift and the wind to appear.

Unfortunately the forecast is not very promising but the Race Committee is keeping competitors updated ashore and has advised that they will not make a final decision about the days racing until 1700. The regatta does not conclude until tomorrow so theoretically we still have two possible sailing days to go and up to four more races could be sailed.

Looking out from the press office all I can see is a lot of grey sky and a lot of grey sea. Occasionally the visibility lifts a little but so far the wind has never got above a few knots and what little wind there has been is completley unstable.

We can only keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best so we'll updated you as soon as we know more.

For those crews who broke masts yesterday this delay is actually very welcome. The spare masts finally arrived at mid morning this morning, having been delayed in their trip to Neustadt by the overnight fog, and the postponement has enabled the crews to rig and set up the masts and be ready to race again.
