PRIMO CUP FINAL DAY BLOWN OUT
After a day with no wind and another with sunshine and lightairs, the final day of the Primo Cup in Monaco brought a gale, explaining the wise decision of the Race Committee to cancel the races. The final ranking is hence the one of Saturday evening with four races of which 3 count. The Italian former Star expert Nicola Celon and his crew aboard Ale Ali win. The French Microsphère (with helmsman Benjamin Cohen and tactician Fabien Henry) is second, in front of the Italian Ricardo Simoneschi and his crew Nautica.
On this Sunday morning, third day for the Melges 24 at the Primo Cup, it would have been enough for the competitors to fly 15 kms away from the Royal Rock to find a raging west wind with a Beaufort 10 force. But this really the strange magic of the Monaco Bay that there was not the least breath of air at that time…. The boats – though they were out ready to fight for the ultimate racing day – had to go back to the harbour. The sudden arrival of the wind with his full power confirmed then how wise the decision of the racing committee was.
The results are therefore unchanged. One sole day of racing for this 2005 Primo Cup, but this is part of the game in Monaco and in spite of this, you will see – next year – that they will all be back , the Italians, the Germans, the Swiss, the Brits and the French, … coming to get the first sunshines of the year but above all enjoying the season kick off.
