Oktoberfest Trophy Won By
For the second time the Bayerischer Yachtclub in Starnberg hosted the Oktoberfest-Trophy and already in the second year the regatta has entered a MUST-level.
18 Melges24 had signed in mainly from the Bavarian lakes around, Switzerland and Austria but as well from Sweden – Torsten Berg and his Jacuzzi Team took the 1,400 km drive from Malmö to join us for the last Melges24 race in Southern Germany counting for the 2007 ranking.
The weather report promised bright sunshine – summer is back – but only light winds and the weekend confirmed the prognosis.
On Friday the fleet was able to sail one race in the late afternoon and another two races at Saturday morning, due to shifting and unstable winds on Sunday no more racing was possible.
Race 1 + 2 was won by the locals on GER 582 “No Woman No Cry” – Eddy Eich was on the helm as Alba Batzill spent a week sailing on the Baltic Sea, but in the 3rd race they had to book a 9th place and therefore were without change for the overall victory and finally finished in the 3rd place.
A little more constancy showed the “Zero Two”-Team on SUI 382 helmed by Michael Good who finished with the results 3, 4 and 1 and finally took second place.
The best performances showed the Austrian team “Franz Rocks” on AUT 406 who were able to finish in all races in second place and therefore were the winners of the 2007 Oktoberfest-Trophy. The team around Christoph & Georg Skolaut entered the Melges24 just one year ago and run parallel a campaign in the Yngling class – but the promised to be focused more in the Melges24 and we are sure they will have success in international races very soon.
But racing is just one side of the medal at Oktoberfest-Trophy – the social events are at least as important as serious racing.
On Friday night the Melges24 fleet were invited by “Zero-Two e.brokerline” sponsor of Michael Good’s team to a Bavarian Night – Live Music, free typical Bavarian Meals (all you can eat) and free bear all night long guaranteed a famous party-night.
For Saturday night a transfer was organised to visit the famous Oktoberfest in Munich and for our Guests from Sweden and the Netherlands (Carlo Vroon joined the team of Deep Blue) have been made reservations in one of the famous tents. And they enjoyed the night at the World’s biggest party-zone.
For next year is planned to book one of the tents for all competitors in the Melges24 class – therefore: DON’T MISS THE 2008 OKTOBERFEST-TROPHY!!!
