Norwegian Fleet Report
From Norwegian Class Chairman Nils Hauff - We have just started a new season in Norway, and the optimism in the Norwegian fleet is great. So far 24 boats have paid their membership in the Class Association, 50% more than last year. We are happy to see quite a few new teams that are very keen.
A couple of years ago we got a new WEB SITE that is very easy to update. Nearly every day there is news on this site. We give all information to our members here, and for example race results are on the page the same day. We think that and active web site is our best tool to build the class.
The weekend after Easter we had a ten-year anniversary for the Musto Ski-Yachting. A record number of 18 boats were doing the slalom Friday afternoon and the sailing on Saturday. You must remember that the winter in Oslo stayed until the end of Easter, so that the sailors only had a couple of days to get the boats out of winter-storage. The conditions in the slalom slope were excellent, and on the water we had a steady breeze of 5 to 8 m/s. This year there were more top skiers in the Ski-Yachting than in the Norwegian Championship in slalom. Winner was Kristoffer Spone in NOR 400 with a mixed crew of sailors and skiers.
The big event in Norway this year is the National Championship at Hankø 11th – 13th August. We expect between 25 and 30 boats to race here. We will celebrate the ten years of Melges 24 in Norway with endless parties that culminate in a great dinner party Saturday night. We hope to see many foreign boats at Hankø this year.
Best regards Nils
