Melges 24s Invited To Participate At Cedar Point Yacht Club One Design Regatta, June 6-7

Given the large gap in the schedule during the month of June for the US Northeast, the Melges 24 fleet has been cordially invited to attend the Cedar Point One Design regatta on June 6-7 off Westport, Connecticut.

For those of you who don't know the venue, its a wonderful club on a beautiful peninsula and a great weekend, with good launching facilities, a famous Lobster cookout with a band Saturday night and a great course located in reasonable proximity to the Club.

This is a great opportunity if you have a local boat to Long Island Sound, Newport, Southern NJ or the Hudson River to come out and race. While competition will be strong, the environment will be casual and fun and provide a great opportunity to sail against other local boats from the New England area regardless of whether you are a grand-prix program or usually race PHRF. Perennial Northeast district competitors have already confirmed that they will be on-hand including Simon Strauss on Simplicity, Neilly Williamson on Millewa Miluna, Nick Amendola on Entourage, Valentin Veytsman on Peacemaker 769 and many others.

While we are awaiting the final NOR, everyone needs to put this on your schedule. Its a great event and everyone is highly encouraged to attend.

Overview of Cedar Point Yacht Club
The CPYC is located on Saugatuck Island in Westport, Connecticut, overlooking Long Island Sound from the mouth of the Saugatuck River. The property was designed with sailboat racing in mind, and the facilities are perfectly suited for running a wide variety of one design and handicap races and social activities afterwards.

Facilities include a clubhouse encircled by an upper deck, verandah and lawns affording spectacular views of the busy harbor and Long Island Sound. The clubhouse includes a snack bar separate kitchen facilities and a self service bar (there is no restaurant), and spacious shower facilities. There is a grill area adjacent to the clubhouse for outdoor meals, two sandy beaches, a fenced playground, and parking for 200 cars. The private basin provides well protected slips for 130 racing and cruising sailboats with fresh water service and electricity.  Depth at mean low water is 8 feet.

Our dry sail facilities feature a wide launching ramp, beachfront launching, two high speed one ton electric hoists, a large rigging dock and a floating "opti-condo" providing easy access for our junior sailors. There is space for more than 150 dry sailed boats and several large staging/rigging areas with fresh water service, enabling CPYC to easily handle large numbers of boats for major regattas. The entire facility is free of overhead wires. There are also racks for Lasers and Optimists.
