Melges 24 Invited to Join Grand Prix Petit Navire, France
The Grand Prix Petit Navire team is delighted to welcome for the first time the Melges 24 class to our competition. For eight years, the Grand Prix has included regattas involving Dragons, Windsurfers, Kitesurfers and Open 7,50. For the first time this year, it will be open to IMOCA 60 feet and Melges 24.
The Grand Prix takes place in the Bay of Douarnenez at the Western tip of Brittany in “one of the best regatta venues in the world” (Russell Coutts). Every series can benefit from their own circle, given the open space offered by the bay. Thanks to the expertise of the organising yacht clubs, every year close to 100 Dragons come to take part in this event which has become a must for its class. Last year in August, 105 dragons competed in the Gold Cup there. It is worthy to note that among the 300 competitors, 28 were Olympic medallists. Among our most loyal visitors, we include Poul Ricard Jensen: twice gold medallist in Soling. All the above should whet your appetite as it gives you a feel for the attractiveness of the racing areas and the competence of the organisers.
Finally, you should know that Douarnenez is not only famous for the beauty of its bay and the dedication of the numerous volunteers who contribute to the quality of the organisation, but also for the festive atmosphere of the Grand Prix and its warm welcome so that participants and visitors not only have a great time at sea during the day but also back on land in the evening.
Consequently, we look forward to seeing you for the First Edition of the 2007 Melges 24 Grand Prix in Douarnenez on the 28th, 29th, 30th April and 1st May.
