Melges 24 Impresses Media & Sailors Alike At North Sea Regatta
Seven Melges 24s took part in the recent North Sea Regatta and enjoyed a weekend of great winds and sunshine with incredibly close racing. The event not only allowed the Melges 24s to race against each other but also gave them the perfect opportunity to show off the Melges 24 to other sailors competing in this major mixed fleet regatta. As a result the media also took note of the growing stature of the Melges 24 in the Netherlands and a reported from one of the Netherland's main sailing websites took the opportunity to race aboard a Melges 24 - check out his REPORT.
Despite the economic downturn the Netherlands Melges 24 Class is growing steadily with several new boats and second hand boats joining the fleet this year and with seven boats racing at the North Sea Regatta the class is now becoming well established. Team Puma, owned by Henrik Hellman, won the event after some very close racing with Frank Lieve second and the Team Haven/Arem/Otte/Karsters syndicate in third.
Several of the Dutch teams are also due to take part in Kiel Week and the Marinepool Melges 24 Worlds in Tallinn and we look forward to seeing a growing number of Dutch sailors racing with the International Fleet.
