Markus Scheel Wins Opening Aarhus Melges 24 Spring Cup Event
The first ever Aarhus Melges 24 Spring Cup was sailed last weekend in the magnificant location the Melges 24 class had it´s 2011 Europeans.
The event attracted 15 boats from 4 nations (Denmark, Germany, Norway and Finland). Kicking off this annual spring cup happened in under wonderful spring weather - blue sky and day temperatures from 14 to 18 degrees. Wind varying from NW to SE and with a velocity of 2 to 8 knots. Aarhus bay made the sailing really tricky with many constantly changing placings.
In the the GER 334 "Acatenango" helmed by Markus Scheel won sailing constantly through out the weekend. Just 5 points behind NOR 600 "Blow" helmed by Peder Nergaard getting two race wins but having their ups and downs. With a tie in points but having no wins DEN 634 "Fredericia" helmed Jesper Bendix.
The enjoyed the warm atmosphere on both waters and onshore. The club organised a nice three course dinner on Saturday. Everyone was thrilled of this new spring event and will be back in April + many years to come.
