Lymington to Host UK Nationals
The UK Melges 24 Class has confirmed that the 2009 UK Open Championship will be hosted by the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, Hampshire from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 September and invites visiting Melges 24 sailors to join them.
Lymington, at the western end of the Solent, is one of the UK's best known sailing centres and the event will be hosted by the prestigious Royal Lymington Yacht Club from its beautiful waterside clubhouse. With options to race out in Christchurch Bay or in the more sheltered waters of the Western Solent, the race management team will be able to provide top quality racing in almost any conditions.
Launching and recovery, trailer storage and moorings will be coordinated by the club with competitors invited to arrive from the afternoon of Wednesday 9 September onwards for registration and launching.
With interest in the Melges 24 once again on the rise in the UK the class is looking to organise a "ranking series" incorporating approximately one event per month at venues around the country and incorporating an event in the Channel Islands plus one or two of the key Northern European regattas (possibly the French Nationals and the European Championship). Further details of this circuit will be published in due course but in the meantime if you would like to find out more about the UK Open Championship or the proposed UK Ranking Circuit please E-mail UK Class Secretary Helen Middleton-Stewart or visit WWW.MELGES24.CO.UK
