Kassberg's 'Flygfisk' Wins Inaugral Key Largo Regatta
From Key Largo Regatta Chair, Jerry Creasman • Well the weekend came and went — the weather could not have been any more perfect! Seven races and nine Melges 24s challenged the title with Tom Kassberg from San Francisco, California on 'USA-525 Flygfisk' taking the title, just ahead of second place George Haynie from Tampa, Florida on 'USA-687 Firewater'. In third overall was Cary Siegler on 'USA-136 Cre843'
Day one we saw winds out of the east at around 15 knots. George Haynie from DIYC was the boat to beat as he recorded three bullets and a second, Kassberg proved to be Mr. Consistency finishing with one bullet, a couple of seconds and a third. Siegler from Miami Beach rounded out the top three with a couple top three finishes a fourth and a sixth.
Racing resumed under breeze-on conditions for Sunday with winds stay mostly out of the east at 20 with gust in the mid 20s. Kassberg simply took control firing off two bullets and a second to become the overall winner of the regatta. Haynie maintained his consistency with one bullet and a couple top four finishes with Cary Siegler maintaining his third overall position with top three finishes.
