JAMIE LEA AND THE BLACK SEAL TEAM WINS SNIM

The final day of racing in Marseille saw more light and shify conditions with the southerly wind never
getting above 10 knots. Jamie Lea and his "Black Seal" crew of Jim Schwerdt, Nigel Young and Rob Lark had a
difficult day but their overnight lead was comfortable enough to ensure them vitory despite a 13th place in the only
race today.

Tixiano Nava and Franco Rossini's "Blue Moon" crew from Switzerland won the final race ahead of Frenchmen Olivier
Ponthieu helming "GPR Lucien Barriere" and Jean Francois Cruette helming "Scutum". Vincent Sauleau put in a
surprise performance to taking fourth place and Bruno Jourdran in "Pokemon" followed him over the line in fifth.

Overall winner Lea was delighted with their victory at this first major event of the European season. Jordran took
second overall while the battle for third between Nava and Mario Zilliani eventually went to Nava by just one point.

With four different nations in the top four places (Britian, France, Switzerland and Italy) and a total of nine nations
represented in the almost 70 strong fleet the European Melges 24 class goes from strength to strength. The crews all
have their sights firmly set on the 2002 World Championship which will take place in Travemuende, Germany at the
end of July so we can look forward to plenty more top level racing as the year progresses.

The next major event in the calendar is the North American Championship which opens in Annapolis this Wednesday 3
April. Watch this space for all the news, results and stories.
