HARRY MELGES CONSOLIDATES LEAD ON DAY TWO OF NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Three more great races saw Harry Melges, helming for Jeff Ecklund, consolidate his lead in the Melges 24 North American Championship with three straight wins in Annapolis today.
Mark Reynolds, helming for Jeff Jones, got off to a slower start with a sixth in the first race but he found his form in the subsequent races with two second places, taking him from fourth to second overall. Unfortunately for Mike Dow his day was operating on the reverse principle and he ended up scoring and third, fifth and eighth as a result of which he has dropped from second to third.
Liz Filter, who had been placed in sixth overall at the end of day one, put in another really consistent day with her results improving in every race. Her five, four, three score line has taken her up to fourth overall ahead of Doug Clark, helming for Neil Sullivan. Clark got off to a good start with a second and third but then found himself down in tenth place in the final race of the day.
With the discard now in place Melges is counting six points, ten clear of Reynolds. Reynolds’ 16 points keep him just one point ahead of Dow whilst Filter is counting 22 and behind this leading group just three points separate fifth to seventh place with Clark on 28, Wayne Pignolet on 29 and Cameron on 30. With one more day of racing to go there’s a lot to play for.
