Good Morning from Day One at the Volvo Worlds!
Good morning from day one of the Volvo Melges 24 World Championship in Porto Cervo. As you can see from our picture (take at 0830) it's overcast here and there's a cool south easterly wind blowing at around 12-14 knots. The forecast indicates this wind should be in for the day and already the sun is trying to break through so hopefully we should have some great sailing images for you later today.
PROs Peter Reggio and Hank Stuart checked in with us before going afloat and have confirmed they anticipate starting racing on time at 1130 on both courses.
Meanwhile the competitors have been coming to the official notice board to check their fleet alocations for the day. In order to decide the ranking to split the fleet into Gold and Silver groups the first six races are run on a round robin format. The fleet is split into four groups and each group must race each other twice to decide the ranking for the final six races. The scores from all twelve races will count.
To keep track of what's going on during the day there are two great sources of information. Firstly the race committee will be updating the EVENT WEB SITE regularly so you can track the latest news on wind, starting procedures, OCS calls, etc, there.
In addition WWW.SAILING ANARCHY.COM will be bringing us live from the race courses updates. Alan "Mr Clean" Block and his team will be going afloat around 1100 local time so start checking for their latest updates around that time.
After racing each day we will obviously have a formal race report and in addition do check out Justin Chisholm's daily From The Fleet reports at WWW.OFFSHORERULES.COM
