Full Medal Jacket Wins Hanko Race Week
Last week 28 Melges 24 sailed the Hankø Race Week 2010. This event is one of the major events in Norway every year. Winds from very little to 8 - 9 m/s made the sailing exiting. The good after sail and social events added to the high spirit and good atmosphere. And the race course at Hankø is known to be one of the best in northern Europe. After the races the sailors were very satisfied, and expressions like "best event ever" and "you don't find it better anywhere in Europe" were heard.
10 races were sailed, and all through the regatta there was a fight between the three top boats: NOR 697 "Oslo Flaggfabrikk" helmed by Christoffer Sundby, NOR 751 "Storm Capital Sail Racing" helmed by Peder Jahre and NOR 804 "Full Medal Jacket" helmed by Eivind Melleby. Peder Jahre has been Corinthian both in the Worlds and the Europeans, Eivind Melleby was nr. 3 in the last Worlds and Christoffer Sundby is an experienced Olympic sailor.
Not until the finish of the last race the winner was clear. NOR 804 "Full Medal Jacket" ended 3 points better than NOR 697 (nr. 2) and NOR 751 (nr. 3).
The Norwegian Melges Association has worked hard to attract young sailors, and 3 - 4 boats with young sailors new in the Melges 24 spiced up the event. One example is the NOR 366 with dingy sailors under 20 that never had sailed a Melges 24 before. The managed a 4th and a 6th place, and smiled from ear to ear.
