First Australian Melges 24 National Championship Underway

The first ever Australian Melges 24 National Championship is now underway in association with Skandia Geelong Week near Melbourne, Australia. Six Australian Melges 24 teams are battling it out for the right to call themselves the first ever Australian Melges 24 Champions.

Racing got underway today and with the first two races now complete Health Townsend and his team aboard AUS709 Kaito from Sydney are leading the fleet. Kaito has been temporarily renamed Skandia: Passion for this regatta as she is sponsored by event sponsor Skandia Life. Queenslands Bruce Leslie sailing AUS19 Matilda is in second place with local hero David Farrimond in AUS710 Vitesse third.

Racing continues until 28th January and as well as enjoying a great first Australian Championship the fleet is also using this as an opportunity to showcase the Melges 24 to the rest of the Skandia Geelong Week fleet. Skandia Geelong Week is the largest and one of the oldest sailing regatta in Australia with over 400 entrants.
