Favini, Field And Racchelli Lead Melges 24 Rankings At Mid Point In Season
With the season now at its mid point the fight for domination of the Melges 24 World, North American and European Rankings is as tight as ever. Currently Flavio Favini, sailing for Switzerland, heads the World ranking but Italy's Andrea Racchelli is just six points behind him in second with IMCA Chairman Riccardo Simoneschi third and fleet newcomer Petr Fiala of the Czech Republic fourth. The World Ranking top ten features no less than eight nations, once again demonstrating the incredible global depth of talent in the Melges 24 fleet.
In the North American Ranking it is Alan Field who leads the way by just two points from Kristen Lane with Alec Cutler less than a point behind her. Riccardo Simoneschi is just 3.8 points adrift in fourth with Brian Porter hard on his heels in fifth.
In the European Ranking Andrea Racchelli leads from Petr Fiala with Norway's Peder Jahr third, Estonia's Tonu Toniste fourth and Sweden's Jonas Berntsson fifth. Nine nations are represented in the European top ten and it is particularly good to see representatives from the new Melges 24 nations of the Czech Republic and Denmark already vying with the more established nations for supremacy.
A total of eleven events are still to be sailed in the World Ranking, three in North America and eight in Europe, so there's still time for plenty of place changes in the results.
