Alghero, situated on the north west corner of Sardinia, is a fascinating venue combining incredible history with a modern Mediterranean seaside resort and some fantastic sailing waters.  The community of Alghero was originally established in the 4th millennium BC.  Its strategic position in the Mediterranean Sea meant that by the early 1100s it had developed into a fortified port of high importance and over the following centuries rule of the city changed hands on many occasions with the Genoese Doria family, the Aragonese, the Habsburgs, the House of Savoy and the Fascists all ruling at various stages in its history.

Today Alghero's historic centre is a major tourist attraction whilst its long sandy beaches, clear blue waters, warm sea breezes, excellent hotels, villas and apartments and direct ferry and air links ensure it is a very popular tourist destination.
