Deaville Week to Host French Open

Press Release From Deaville International Week - Deauville International Week intends to create a great new meeting for international one-designs in Northern Europe. The Melges 24 ranks at the top of this reference international series. Whether it be in the United Kingdom, France (Channel/ Atlantic), Belgium and Holland, Germany, Scandinavia (Norway/ Sweden/ Finland), the potential fleet is sufficiently rich to launch a large scale event dedicated to Northern Europe.

In a bid to support this drive, the French class will use Deauville to host its National Open in 2006, which will guarantee a significant participation. Due to be held at the same time each year, the event will provide privileged conditions to enable the Melges 24 to continue racing there year in year out.

The whole fleet of Melges 24 will benefit from a top level sporting organisation: a team of 8 international judges will form a half Anglo-Saxon half French race committee and an international jury will preside over the event.

The Melges 24 will race on a totally independant course and Corine Aubert, International judge and President of the Race Committee in the Melges 24 Worlds in Hyères next August, will be charge of this particular class in Deauville.

The Race Village will span 300m of quayside in the town centre, with a large 500m2 crew marquee, a bar supplying copious amounts of beer, and live bands every evening with music ranging from Celtic to Jazz…

Just 3 hours ferry ride from Portsmouth and 2 hours from Paris, Deauville and the surrounding region is the most highly regarded seaside resort in the North of France; a site where the Norman charm is without compare.

An unmissable début edition!
