Change Of Venue For 2011 Melges 24 European Championship
Just prior to the 2010 IMCA World Council AGM, which took place in Berlin this past Saturday 20 November, the IMCA Executive Committee received notification from Haugesund (Norway) that with deep regret it was withdrawing from hosting the 2011 Melges 24 European Championship. This situation is largely the result of difficulties in securing the necessary sponsorship to support the event during the current global economic crisis. The Executive Committee understand the frustration and disappointment of the Norwegian Fleet and the Haugesund organisers and hope that we will have another opportunity to sail a major championship in Norway in the near future.
In the meantime the Executive Committee has received two very generous offers from potential host clubs to help us rescue this unfortunate situation. One of these options will enable us to keep the event in the Scandinavian region, which allows us to continue to respect the “turn over of regions” that the World Council and Executive has endorsed for the future. These proposals were reviewed at the AGM and the World Council mandated the Executive Committee to follow up those proposals and find the best possible solution for hosting the 2011 Melges 24 European Championship within the next two weeks.
Further information will be published as soon as possible but no later then week commencing 6th December 2010.
