Canadian Melges 24 Sailors Form Independent National Class Association And Host Inaugural Canadian Nationals

We are delighted to confirm that the Canadian Melges 24 fleet, which for many years has operated as an extension of the US Melges 24 Class, has now gained sufficient independent momentum and numbers that they have formed their own Canadian Melges 24 Class and will host the first ever Canadian Open National Championship in association with the LYRA Regatta at National Yacht Club in Toronto, on August 3-4.  Further information, notice of race, etc, will be posted at the regatta website on http://lyra2013.com.

Currently Canadian Melges 24 activity is focused in Toronto/Ontario and British Columbia, but interest is growing and owners in other areas of Canada are asked to contact the Canadian Class so the fleet can work together to promote growth and camaraderie.

A number of Canadian teams are expected to compete at the Worlds in San Francisco as well as other events around the USA, and the new Canadian fleet looks forward to welcoming visiting teams to its inaugural National Championship and other events.  Its great news for the International Melges 24 Class as a whole that Canada has now reached sufficient numbers to create its own national association so please support their regattas when ever you can to help them continue to promote the class and grow numbers in the region.  We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the US Melges 24 Class for all their work in supporting the Canadian sailors to date.
