Big Ship Leads After Second Day At Primo Cup
From Christelle Durand of the French Class - The sun rose on a beautiful shining day in Monaco for this second racing day. Just the wind was not invited… which led the 37 competitors to wait on water for about 2 hours. But patience was just the right option since a 6-8 knots thermic breeze finally came, with a 140° direction, stable for Monaco residents but shifty for any other sailor! The French Big Ship Marseille (driven by Maxime Paul and Dimitri Deruelle) finally got the best from the Swiss Italian Blu Moon (owned by Franco Rossini and helmed by Christopher Rast), performing well with the wind changes and having chosen the right option which is the left side. The sympathetic Italian crew Altea (Andrea Racchelli) took the third position.
The second race appeared to be similar to the first one but finally turned out to be a “right side” race. The Swiss Poizon Rouge (Jean Marc Monnard) finished first, just in front of Big Ship Marseille and of the Italian crew Liocorno Melsineo (Sandro Montefusco).
The third race – starting late in the day - was doomed to end up in difficult conditions for the competitors (see yesterday). And as a matter of fact it turned out to be a “Stop and go” from the second leeward leg on. It ended up at night, after 16 boats failed to cross the line on time. The race was won by Andrea Casale (AMF Nikita) who confirms his entry in the Class at the best level, in front of Maxime Paul (Big Ship Marseille) and Franco Rossini (Blu Moon).
All the crews could at last join the other classes – already enjoying the traditional crews dinner given by the Monaco Royal Yacht Club – for a happy party.
