Bavarian Open 2006
From the German Class Association - From 24.-26. May the "Deutsche Touring Yacht Club" at Tutzing organised the "Bavarian Open 2006" - 14 boats followed the invitation and enjoyed great sailing on Lake Starnberg.
Low pressure and partly covered sky mixed with some rain-showers produced strong winds up to 30 knots - average between 15-20 knots for Thursday and Friday - just the final race on Saturday was sailed in tricky light-wind-conditions.
6 races were sailed, each on 12 nm windward leewards with 80-90 minutes length - high speed downwind with boat speeds > 20 knots and tough upwind.
This was Melges24 sailing at its best and good advertising for the class - the other class on the course didn't use the Spinnaker anymore but the whole M24 fleet was planning downwind with Genaker.
SUI 382 "ZeroTwo" helmed/owned by Michael Good showed best performance and won the series with just 8 points, second place went to Peter Göckel helming GER 504 "Lady Bones" owned by Andy Vincon with 18 points - place 3 with 19 points went to the brand new Devoti GER 640 "Ka Nalu Nui" of Günter & Regina Tzeschlock who could win 2 races in Friday's strong winds clear ahead of the fleet.
No matter to point out that the social events were at least as good as the races. A dock-party on Thursday with Bavarian beer and snacks followed by a 3 course meal on Friday evening made everyone happy.
