Audi tron European Sailing Series Melges 24 - Audi tron Taking More Action But The Games Are Not Over Yet

06 July 2014 - Riva del Garda, Italy. On the day before the last day of the Audi tron European Sailing Series Melges 24, event hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva in cooperation with B.Plan Sport&Events valid as the fourth event of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series dedicated to the most widespread mono-hull among the one designs produced by the Melges Performance Sailboats it's Audi tron (1-2-3) to take more action scoring three brilliant results taking over the world continental champion team Blu Moon (10-3-1).

After eight races  - yesterday's three heats have been sailed under a stable Ora wind blowing 10-15 knots - the Melges 24 of the Audi Italia Sailing Team, guided by Simoneschi-Fonda, is leading with a 7-point-margin over Rossini-Favini, and Gabriele Benussi.

Ranking third at only 2 points Maidollis (2-4-18), with helmsman Niccolò Bianchi, Gabrio Zandonà.

At fourth stands Andrea Racchelli's  Altea (4-6-4) that overtakes the vice-european champion Giogi (7-1-12) of Balestrero-Celon.

Taking a look at the provisional results the first five places have a significant gap with all other competitors. Wadadli (24-9-7) with European champion Matteo Ivaldi has a 30 points gap.

Gill Race Team (3-10-16) already world champion Laser SB20, Geoff Carveth ranks nineth, GBR-694 confirms itself as the best Corinthian and comes back seventh place before the German team of Kicker Schaefer's Musto Racing (13-8-10).

Event will resume today with two or three more races scheduled to start at 12:00.

1. Audi tron ITA-840 - Riccardo Simoneschi (3-2-1-6*-2-1-2-3) 14 pts 
2. Blu Moon SUI-825 - Flavio Favini (1-1-2-10*-3-10-3-1)  21 pts 
3. Maidollis ITA-822 - Gabrio Zandonai (2-3-3-4-5-2-4-18*) 23 pts  

The Top 3 in Corinthian (Pro Am - professionals not allowed) division: 
1. Gill Race team GBR-694 - (11-7-12-27*-11-2-10-16) 70 pts 
2. Maxam ITA-722 (6-22-16-9-30*-6-15-2) 76 pts 
3. Marduk CZE-792 - Fedor Kubes (8-17*-15-16-6-12-11-14) 82 pts 
Positions and points according to the overall scoring.

This year's edition of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series will introduce the Corinthian ranking as it is usual in all the events of the Melges 24 Class and this will be called as Pro Am. This series has proven to be a success from the first edition with a very high participation.
