All in Play for Day Two in Geelong

Three races were scheduled for day two of the three day series.

Race three the conditions were 31 degrees with a shifty 5-10 knot breeze from the North.

The fleet was lead by “Vitesse” who managed to pick a big wind shift favouring the left side. Vitesse’s crew, team Farrimond, brothers Adam, Scott and Dale with Heath Walters on the helm kept their composure to be first around the top mark, followed by Murray Walters steering the mini wild oats look alike “No Comment” with new owner Mark Bernardinis in full racing mode. Veteran AUS 19 “Matilda” in third place proving the M24 is a true One Design boat. The yachts went on to finish in this order.

After a one hour wait, race four was started, “Vitesse” led with a killer start until half way up the first beat, when the race was abandoned.

The course was moved with the wind swinging to the North East, a grain ship moored just south of the fleet provided the backdrop when race four was started at appox 4.30pm. The race was quick and shifty, close racing at the last gate rounding with four M24’s within thirty seconds of each other. Heath Townsends “Kaito” and Bruce Leslie’s “Matildas” were neck and neck down the final run , with Kaito winning the battle to take first place. Vitesse third place and another battle between “Anarchy” and “No Comment” saw Anarchy take fourth.

Race five got away at about 6pm and with blustery 15-18 knot conditions. A big shift again favoured the left on the beat. With the increase in pressure M24’s were doing 14 knots downwind. Heath Townsend’s “Kaito” won the heat convincingly with superior boat speed and excellent crew work.

Overall results to date mean day three will come down to the wire with Kaito leading and Vitesse and Matilda on equal points.
