ADVICE FOR CLASS TROPHY DONORS
The International Melges 24 Class and also National Melges 24 Class Associations are always happy
to receive trophies for various races.
However, without in anyway being ungrateful we would ask you to bear in mind a few points.
1. The insurance burden for trophies will fall on the International or National Class and this can be onerous. Please
therefore do not make trophies of too greater value. The pleasure is in winning the trophy, not in the value of the
trophy.
2. Transport of trophies can be difficult and fraught with problems when a carrier becomes involved. Fragile trophies
are obviously at great risk of damage. Please ensure that the trophy can be transported easily and that it has a
strong, well padded and durable travelling case.
3. Please also ensure that the trophy, in its case, will fit through the main hatch of a Melges 24. This allows much
easier transportation between events.
4. Consider trophies that are unusual. These are often more economic to purchase, insure and easier to transport.
5. Finally, please make sure that the trophy is given with a “Deed of Gift” setting out ownership and the use of the
trophy. A standard “Deed of Gift” can be obtained from the International Class, who will be happy to advise.
Thank you.
