US Melges 24 Fleet - Back In Business

This weekend the US Melges 24 fleet will be out in force in Zenda for the 2011 Melges 24 US Open Championship and we'll have heaps of coverage for you.  Kicking things off is this first report from Sailing Anarchy's Mr Clean:-

We’re a long way from the heady days of 50 boat Key Wests and 99-boat US-hosted Worlds, but the US Melges 24 Class continues its resurgence this weekend in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin – the home of Melges Performance Sailboats.  45 boats are registered for the US Nationals – the most at any US Melges 24 event in ages, and the venue fits well with the ‘ back to grass roots’ approach that’s giving the class new life under new US President Chris Farkas (who, along with Andre Peixoto, built the successful California Cup series).

Mer and I will be on the water reporting on the action via Sportboat Anarchy and the SA’s busy Facebook page, and we’re hoping to bring you our famous live “Cocktail Hour” on Saturday night with the most interesting and hilarious sportboat sailors we can convince to drink free beer on camera and talk about the state of one of the coolest classes in the sport.
