Terra Wins Open Norwegian Championship
From Nils Hauff of the Norwegian Melges 24 Class - “Terra Eiendomsmegling” (“Terra Something” ref. Chrisholm) won another prize this weekend by winning the Open Norwegian Championship at Hankø. This time with Øyvind Peder Jahre at the helm just like when they were the best Corinthian in the Worlds at Sardinia. In the end of June they won the Nordic Championship at Hankø with Stian Thuv helming.
Of the 34 boats on the line were one boat from Estonia, one from Denmark and two from Sweden.
On Friday there were two races in wind up to 12 m/s, and NOR 554 “Terra” got a good start by winning both races. The wind from south was steady, but made large waves of 3 – 4 meters. In the first race 11 boats were BFD.
On Saturday the wind had changed to an easterly breeze 6 – 9 m/s. EST 646 “Lenny” Tönu Töniste won two races, but the winner of the day was NOR 733 “Wolfpack” Geir Dahl Andersen with the results 1, 2, 3 and 5. After 6 races it looked like the Championship would be a fight between “Terra” and “Wolfpack”.
On Sunday there were another day with easterly breeze, this time between 4 and 7 m/s. In the last race “Terra” was fighting “Wolfpack” through all the race, and they ended 21 and 19. With a BFD in the first race “Wolfpack” could not afford this, end ended 5 overall. Kristian Nergaard in NOR 400 “Baghdad” showed steady sailing with two 3rds as best, and they won the silver medals. After winning the 3 last races Herman Horn Johannessen ended 3 overall.
