Gulari Leads After Day One In Key West

After two races on day 1, reigning U.S. National Champion Bora Gulari aboard West Marine Rigging/New England Ropes dominated the extremely competitive Melges 24 fleet at Quantum Key West 2012 with a 1-1 score line. The overnight results prove that the competition is quite intense as Alan Field on WTF and defending Key West Champion Flavio Favini helming Franco Rossini’s Blu Moon traded places in each race to finish the day second and third, tied with five points each. Rounding out the top five was Bruce Ayres’ Monsoon in fourth and Guy Mossman’s Battle Rhythm is currently seated fifth.

Under simply gorgeous conditions, PRO Peter Reggio delivered flawless race management with a steady 12-15 knots of breeze and some scattered gusts as high as 18-20, making for really fun, beautiful downwind sprints.

More racing continues on Tuesday, with the possibility of three races on Division 2 instead of two as previously scheduled. There is some uncertainty surrounding Wednesday’s breeze forecast.

Each day, postings will be made available on usmelges24.com and regular shorts will be made at the U.S. Melges 24 Facebook Page from the course.
