Just in time for a pro team to buy this race-ready beauty for the 2015 Nationals and "warm up" regatta in the Pacific Northwest's windiest freshwater venue...The Gorge at Cascade Locks. You don't see a boat like this for sale very often, and its located perfectly for the top national regatta in 2015, then in 2016, transport it to the East Coast for Charleston Race Week and the Worlds in Miami. This is the most race-proven and race-ready Melges 24 for sale currently...with a proven track record with Alan Field and his Pro team.
I purchased this boat in October 2013 from Pro Alan Field, where he placed 15th at the Worlds in San Francisco. Alan Field also holds the Melges 24 Hall of Fame ranking for North America from 2009-2012. I brought it to the Pacific Northwest, where it has sailed in only a handful of local and regional regattas, including the 2014 Canadian Nationals.
The reason it is for sale is simple. I have twin 12 year old daughters and a wife that are not into sailing, and I just cannot justify having this "pro-team worthy" Melges 24 sitting around unused as much as it is. When I bought this from Alan, he gave me everything that he had brought for the 2013 Worlds. So when I say this boat is "Pro Race Team Ready," I mean it. There is double of almost everything, and this boat was Alan Field's second Melges ordered from Zenda, so it was essentially a special order for a pro. The boat comes with 3 North Mains, 4 North Jibs, and 3 Ullman AP+ kites. The sails used in the 2013 Worlds were brand new, and the other sails have minimal use.
Ideally, the buyer of this boat would be a US or international pro team looking to have a perfect race specimen already located in the Pacific Northwest, to train and sail in the Nationals at the Gorge. Then they would have the boat transported to the East Coast for the 2016 circuit, ending with the Worlds in Miami.
I am including a bullet list of just about everything I can think of that comes with the boat, but ask me if there is something you do not see....as I probably have it and just forgot to include it. I also have included some links to website of interest for the upcoming regattas, as well as a great website "pimp your boat" put together by Erik Shampain, previous crew with Alan. The pics on the website are of the actual boat (USA 811) I am selling, showing all the upgrades Alan and Erik did to this boat.
