NORTH SAIL'S NIGEL YOUNG REPORTS FROM THE RECENT FINNISH MELGES 24 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

I am currently flying back from Finland having taken part in the Melges 24 Finish Championships. We were invited to take part approximately 2 months ago and with a little friendly persuasion from Tomi Hakola and Ari Bloom we made the easy choice to attend.

The Finnish Melges fleet is still in its infancy and the event was run in a very friendly manner with all the competitors really enjoying the sailing as much as the racing of the Melges.

ABOUT JIB BATTENS

Dear Melges 24 Sailors,

I have been asked by the International class to write a few words on the current Jib batten situation. As most of you are aware the class has allowed jib battens for a trial period of time this year and so far all the results are very positive. The exact wording of the rules surrounding this trial can be found on within this web site so I will not go into too much detail in this area.

HARRY MELGES TAKES THE MELGES 24S AT ACURA SORC

The final day of racing for the Melges 24 Class at the Acura SORC was held in glorious sunshine and 16-18 knots of onshore breeze which kicked up the classic Miami chop.

The port end paid at the start of race five and Harry Melges, Tony Weatherall and Doug Clark, helming for Paula Zubrzycki, took full advantage of the benefit offered. Argyle Campbell and Morgan Reeser were also in on the port end but a port starboard incident with Weatherall left Campbell making turns and Reeser was overeager and was caught OCS, effectively blowing his chances of winning the regatta.
