TRAVEMUENDER TO HOST GERMAN OPEN 25-28 JULY

Around 20 entries from 7 nations are anticipated at the German Open National Championships, which take place from 25-28 July at the Luebecker Yacht Club as part of Germany’s famous Travemuender Week.
With the 2002 Worlds taking place in Travemuender many of the crews are taking this opportunity to start familiarising themselves with the race area as well as continuing their warm up campaigns for this year’s Europeans which are now only 6 weeks away.

Travemuender is a beautiful city and the marine is very much part of it making this a great venue for families and friends as well as the sailors. For this event Melges 24 competitors will be berthed at the "Passat-Hafen" on the Peninsular "Priwall" with free ferryboats taking you on the lovely 10 minute ride right into the heart of the city where you can spend the evening enjoying a wonderful selection of bars and restaurants. Additionally the regatta centre features an event marquee sponsored by a famous brewery for those essential post-race debriefs.

On Thursday 26 July all Melges 24 and sports competitors are invited to enjoy an evening aboard the "PASSAT", a famous four-masted tall-ship lying directly in front of the harbour, and on Friday afternoon the German Melges Class invite you to a dock-party directly after racing.

With UK National Champion Keith Musto, Maria Ziliani, Alba Batzil and Andy Vincon competing the 11 race series for the new challenge trophy presented by Melges Germany and Vitorio Strosek will be very close.

Late entries are still being taken via www.travemuender-woche.net so if you want a chance to race on the 2002 World Championship course, tune up for the Europeans and enjoy the Luebecker Yacht Club’s famous hospitality sign up now.
