Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2015: Ronald Veraar’s Team Kesbeke/Sika/Gill retains its lead at the Dutch Open Championships
September 19, 2015 – Medemblik, the Netherlands – The competition for the Dutch Champion 2015 titles continued in the International Sailing Center Medemblik at the Delta Lloyd Dutch Open Championships today. Yesterday’s leader, Dutch Ronald Veraar’s Team Kesbeke/Sika/Gill NED827 keeps its leadership on the second day of the fifth event of the 2015 Melges 24 European Sailing Series.

Sailors met another beautiful day in Medemblik where three races were executed in the medium wind conditions of 10-14 knots with a clear blue sky and sunshine. Race Committee of the International Sailing Center Medemblik managed to execute three races for the Melges 24 class to have six races altogether with one discard of the worst result now.

Among eighteen Melges 24 boats Miles Quinton’s Gill Race Team GBR694 from Great Britain was performing the best today collecting two bullets out of three and the second result from the last race what turned out to be OCS and was thrown out as their worst result. The leader after the first day, Ronald Veraar’s Team Kesbeke/Sika/Gill NED827 got second, fifth and twelfth place and with the discard of twelve points they retain its lead having 11 points in overall. Gill Race Team is following as the second with 14 points and Swiss Michael Good’s Aile SUI382 jumped from the first day’s fifth position to the third with 21 points in overall.

David Rowen’s ImagineGBR557 from Great Britain is on the fourth position followed by the three Hungarian teams - Kalman Rozsnyay’s FGF Sailing Team HUN728 with Robert Bakozsy in helm, who managed to win the final race, then Akos Csolto’s Seven-Five-Nine HUN759 and Andras Milbich's Jedi Business HUN481 with Peter Czegai helming.

Racing in Medemblik will resume on Sunday with two races scheduled and 2015 Dutch Champions will be crowned later afternoon.
About the Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2015
The final results of the event will certainly amend the current ranking of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series where the current leader in Pro division is Miles Quinton's Gill Race Team and in Pro Am (Corinthian) division is leading Ukrainian team Marusia with Oleg Dyvinets in helm. After Medemblik the final points to the ranking will be collected at the 6th event of the 2015 Melges 24 European Sailing Series in Luino, Italy at the Melges 24 Swiss Open Championship / Lino Favini Cup on October 9-11, being also the final event of the Italian circuit - Audi tron Sailing Series.

Melges 24 class in Europe so far has had four events of the 2015 Melges 24 European Sailing Series so far: first in Portoroz, Slovenia in March, second in Balatonfüred, Hungary in May; third in Riva del Garda, Italy in May and fourth as the most important title event of the year, World Championship in Middelfart Denmark in June-July. Fifth event of the series is currently underway in Medemblik, the Netherlands and the best teams of the series will be awarded in Luino, Italy as a joint event with Audi tron Sailing Series in October.
