FI BROWN GIVES US THE LATEST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RESCHEDULING NEWS

We really are getting very close to agreement with Premiere Racing now and hope to have a final announcement for you about hosting the Melges 24 Worlds at Key West Race Week by Wednesday. Here is a quick summary of some of the things we have now been able to tie down so that you know where we
are heading:

* The most important point is that Premiere Racing really want to be able to host our event and are pulling out all the stops to accommodate us and put together a truly world championship quality event at extremely short notice.

* They can accommodate a 10 race series within the existing Monday to Friday schedule as well as offering a practise race/races on Sunday (we wanted to stay within the existing dates so that those who have already booked flights and accommodation will not have to make any further costly changes).

* We can set up the necessary measurement facilities at Truman Annex with measurement commencing on the Friday.

* On the water judging can be run and the existing international jury more than meet our requirements.

* Premiere will be able to provide additional race management team resources to ensure we achieve the very best quality racing

* The number of other classes on the course can be reduced to 1 (most likely to be the J105 as it is most compatible with the M24) ensuring minimal class overlaps. There was some comment that the Farr 40s had been given their own separate circle in 2001 - in fact they shared with 31 Mumm 30s and the previous year they shared with five other classes - clearly the fact that several people didn't notice the 31 Mumm's is a huge testament to the race management team's ability to maintain class separation.

* Special profile can be given to the Melges 24s within the daily prize givings and the daily newspaper and the Key West Press Office will work hand in hand with Joy and I to achieve maximum press coverage for the Worlds.

* Dedicated Melges 24 parties can be laid on with the assistance of existing and new sponsors and patrons to ensure the class has a social programme to match it's on the water programme. The key racing and social issues are now in place and we are working on sponsorship and funding questions to ensure everything is clarified before making a final announcement.

My thanks again to everyone who is helping to put the event together, particularly Peter Craig and his Premiere Team and the many class members and supporters who are giving their time and knowledge. The offers of financial support and equipment supply/loan help already made are very much appreciated and we will be back in contact in a few days to follow these up. Additionally if anyone else thinks they could help with cash sponsorship, loan of RIBs/boats, donation of product or services or hosting of parties please get in touch via FionaBrown@compuserve.com or Tel +44
