Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2021 - With Four Bullets Altea Flies to the Edge
June 26, 2021 - Malcesine, Italy - On the second day of regatta valid for the inaugural Act of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series and Act 3 for the Italian Melges24Tour, the Garda Lake does not betray expectations and offers ideal conditions to complete four races, equally divided between morning and afternoon, between Peler and Ora.
A great day, interpreted in an excellent way by Altea ITA722 (1-1-1-1), fast enough to score a line of the first. Never undermined by their rivals, Andrea Racchelli's crew, who have been in the Class for over twenty years and winner of the World title in Victoria in 2018, set the pace, decisively breaking off Michael Tarabochia's White Room GER677 (8-5-3-2) that, led by son Luis, on board as helmsman, yesterday recalled that it is the outgoing champion of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series by closing the opening day in the lead.
Great satisfaction was expressed by Andrea Racchelli, who begins by underlining how “… today was one of the best days ever for the Melges 24 family: in fact, never in Italy we managed to sail four races in one day. Congratulations to everyone, starting from Fraglia Vela Malcesine, for their resourcefulness and determination in achieving this pleasant goal. On Altea it could not have gone better: compared to yesterday the speed was almost identical but we managed to keep our concentration high during all the starting procedure, something that yesterday we were not able to do in a proper way."
White Room is now eight points behind the leader, trailed by Arkanoé by Montura ITA809 (2-3-UFD-3) helmed by Sergio Caramel who is six points behind the German team, with whom he duels for the success among the Corinthians.
The occupants of the fourth and fifth place are today reversed, with Seven Five Nine HUN759 (4-2-UFD-5) by Akos Csolto who now anticipates Melgina ITA693 (9-14-6-4) by Paolo Brescia whit the former 470 junior world champion, Jas Farneti.
Another morning departure is scheduled for tomorrow, final day of this event organized by Fraglia Vela Malcesine in collaboration with the Italian Melges 24 Class Association and the International Melges 24 Class Association. There are only two races to be held and the Race Committee hopes to conclude the regattas in the late morning.
